Muhammad Khurram Sabri Qawwal – Carrying the Timeless Legacy of the Sabri Brothers
Born in 1979 in Lahore, Pakistan, Muhammad Khurram Sabri Qawwal is a proud torchbearer of one of South Asia’s most iconic Qawwali traditions – the legendary Sabri Brothers. Khurram Sabri’s journey into the spiritual and musical world of Qawwali began at an early age under the direct guidance of two towering figures in the history of Sufi music: Haji Ghulam Fareed Sabri and Haji Maqbool Ahmed Sabri. As the father and uncle of the renowned Amjad Sabri, these great masters nurtured Khurram’s talent with years of rigorous classical and spiritual training.
For more than 14 years, Khurram Sabri remained under their mentorship, learning the deep intricacies of classical Qawwali, vocal techniques, rhythmic patterns, and the soul-stirring art of spiritual expression through music. This intense period of learning shaped him into a dynamic and versatile Qawwal with a voice that carries both the depth of tradition and the freshness of new expression.
In 2010, Khurram Sabri embarked on his own professional journey by forming his Qawwali group, “The Sabris”, with the mission of continuing and reviving the unmatched legacy of the Sabri Brothers. Since then, he has performed across Pakistan at countless national, folk, regional festivals, and Qawwali concerts, captivating audiences with his powerful vocals and heartfelt renditions.
A significant milestone in his career came on 13th October 2011, when he was officially recognized as an A-Category Qawwal singer by Pakistan Television (PTV), one of the country’s most prestigious broadcasting platforms. Over the years, Khurram Sabri has graced numerous national TV channels, art councils, folk festivals, college campuses, and university stages, earning widespread acclaim for his authentic style and emotional performances.
Fluent in Urdu, Arabic, Punjabi, and Persian, Khurram’s repertoire beautifully blends classical Qawwali, modern interpretations, and regional Sufi poetry. His music is deeply rooted in the themes of divine love, spiritual longing, and cultural heritage, making his performances a mesmerizing experience for both traditionalists and new-generation listeners.
Trained rigorously in both classical and contemporary music, Khurram Sabri continues to honor the spirit of the Sabri Brothers, bringing their timeless message of love, peace, and devotion to audiences in Pakistan and beyond. His voice not only echoes the past but also carves a vibrant future for Sufi Qawwali on the world stage.
